Wow, I have been a major slacker, huh? I should learn to update more often. I haven't been around much of anywhere on the interwebs. You won't see much of me until I finish my current project.

I'm still working on A Firm Hand. Yeah, I know. It's been a year. This book is killing me. But, I'm determined to finish it. I'm figuring it will end up between 70-80K and I'm hoping to have it done by the first week of February. As I've mentioned before, it's a BDSM contemporary, but much darker and more emotional than you've previously seen from me (hence the reason it's taking me so damn long to finish it).

On the horizon, I started a shifter erotic romance that has been in the planning stages for a long time. I took a break from AFH, when the content got too heavy, and put a few thousand words down so that I had a place to jump to when I finally finish what I'm working on now. As of now the shifter story is titled His by Rite. It won't be as heavy as AFH, thank god. I'm going to need a break when that one is over.

Eventually, I'll get to Jared's story, the sexy Master/trainer who made an appearance in Wrapped Around Your Finger. Some of you have asked when that will happen and I'm sorry to say that I won't begin working on his book until later this year, but I do plan to write it. You'll get a glimpse of Jared and his love interest in A Firm Hand as well as a little news about Indie and Banner.

Other than all that, the only news I have to impart is that I've been working pretty closely with my new critique partner. She has some really great stuff coming out this year. I'm sure you've heard of her, JA Saare? Very talented writer. If you haven't read Omega Mine by her alter-ego, Aline Hunter, you need to. It's HAWT and full of action. You won't be disappointed.

zombies are coming!

So yes, I bought them. I mean come on, zombies and they glow in the dark? It was a no-brainer. Is it bad that I plan to wear them to my Dad's wedding? It's a small, casual affair, nothing churchy or formal. I even bought a very classy black dress for the occasion. The shoes might not scream class, but they'll scream something that's for sure. I'll be sure to post pics of the wedding.

Here we are again with Six Sentence Sunday. I'm pulling my six from one of my current WIP, Total Apocalypse of the Heart, an erotic horror set in the middle of a deadly viral pandemic. Last week Sam Lancaster was reminiscing about the love he let get away before gunshots broke him out of his reverie...

What the hell?

He dashed to the front of the store carefully avoiding the windows. He didn’t want to be seen by the infected or whoever happened to be firing out there. Staying in the shadows, he pressed his back against the brick column between the front door and the display window and peered outside.
A jacked up, primer-gray truck had haphazardly parked in the lot. The Jones boys--local redneck assholes--jumped out of the vehicle with such enthusiasm you’d think they were headed to a titty bar and not a gun shop in the middle of a damn plague.

He missed that obnoxious, fire-engine red hair of hers and the devious grin she always wore right before she was about to cause trouble. His little thrill seeker. He wondered how much she’d changed over the last two years.

After seeing the news reports on the chaos in Atlanta, he wanted—no needed—to know if she was okay. He hoped Bea and Jim had been in contact with her, and she’d made it home before things had gotten out of control.

The loud crack of gunshots shook him from his thoughts.

It's been quite a while since I've done one of these. I have missed it. As you know, life gets in the way and me, being the forgetful person I am, would remember too late to put a post together. Aside from all the boring details you really don't want to hear, I've decided to pull from my erotic horror again. Some of you may remember that I've dropped my wonderful, resourceful and often snarky characters in the middle of a modern day plague. It's tentatively titled Total Apocalypse of the Heart.

He remembered the day she’d left for Atlanta as if it were yesterday. The hurt and anger in her big brown eyes had hit him like a punch to the throat -- still felt that way every time he thought about her. She’d wanted him to go with her, but big city life had never been his dream. He was a small town guy, always would be. Not that any of that mattered now. It was damn funny how an apocalypse could change a person’s perspective on things.

Considering it's February 14th, you would think I would be posting about that other holiday. You know, the one where we go out and buy Hallmark sentiments, chocolate expressions of love and corny stuffed animals. You won't hear about that here. Last year a few of the bloggers got together and Dean Day was born. Yes, you heard that right, an entire day devoted to our favorite television Gamma hero, Dean Winchester.

Who could resist that smile?

As a writer, I'm fascinated by the character. Dean Winchester is extremely compelling, three dimensional and deeply layered. He has a certain realism that draws me in and keeps me coming back for more. On the surface, he appears to be a bad boy. He drives a classic muscle car, can drink Ernest Hemingway under the table, leaves a string of broken hearts in his wake and has perfected his own brand of snark. He's pushy, close-minded, stubborn and the boy eats more than anyone I know.

Beneath his hardened yet humorous veneer, lies a heart of gold. Dean is a family man; loyal to a fault. He's the kind of guy who would literally, and willingly, traverse the depths of hell for those he loves. And no matter what you've done, no matter how hopeless your situation is, he will never leave your side, never give up on you. He will be strong when you cannot. He will protect you no matter the cost. Sounds like a hero right? One of the best qualities about Dean is he doesn't see himself as a hero. Nope, he's just another guy trying to survive.

Granted, he has an ego the size of Texas where the ladies are concerned, but deep down he just wants the house in the burbs with a wife and all that. The thing about Dean? He put his own dreams and desires aside for family. He did it his entire childhood to care for Sam while his Dad saved the world from monsters and later to save Sam from himself. Does he want credit or praise for all of this altruism? Nope, Dean hates chick flick moments. Our boy is modest. For all his complexity, at his core Dean is a simple man. He loves greasy food (bacon cheese burgers anyone?), alcohol, classic rock and family. These are the things that make him happy.

My poor little Dean-loving heart will be crushed at the end of this season. It's the last. It has been a hell of ride and I'll miss it. So here's to you Dean, we love you!

The Lure of the Bride

As you all know, I have a certain fascination with classic horror. Recently I've been enamored with The Bride of Frankenstein. My oldest, who is now five, asked if she could watch one of "mommy's spooky movies" the other day so I thought it was high time to introduce her to one of the classics. I popped it in and waited for her to complain. With all of the computer animated movies and stuff out there now, I was a worried she'd be bored to death by an old black and white monster movie. Man was I wrong! She loved it, even yelling at the "mean people" for threatening the poor monster.

"He's misunderstood mom." Talk about proud moment for me.

My daughter now wants to be the bride for Halloween this year. It's early yet, and she's fickle, so we'll see how many times she changes her mind. She and I spent some time looking at Bride of Frankenstein things on the net. I came across some amazing artwork and I thought I'd share with you.

Horrible Old Movies

A few weeks ago my wonderful husband bought me the old horror movie, I Walked With a Zombie, just because. I did say he was wonderful didn't I? Some women get flowers, I get horror movies and wouldn't have it any other way. It had been quite some time since I'd indulged in an old horror film. And I don't mean seventies or eighties old (although I love those too), I mean classic horror that dates back to the thirties and forties.

When I was a kid I used to watch old sci-fi and horror movies every Saturday afternoon on Creature Feature. My husband's impromptu gift brought those memories flooding back. I miss those days, I really do. And it's funny to think back and realize how young I was when my fascination with horror started. When other kids were glued to the television every Saturday morning to watch their favorite cartoons, I couldn't wait for them to be over so I could watch Creature Feature. Yeah, I was weird even back then.

As I sat and watched I Walked With a Zombie last week, that old fascination started all over again. I've been so immersed in modern horror that I somehow forgot how wonderful, horrible and scary the older films are. Needless to say I went on a quest to hunt some of them down and recently added these gems to my ever growing horror movie collection: The House on Haunted Hill,
Bride of Frankenstein, The Last Man on Earth and I have a dvd horror collection on the way that has lots of goodies.

One of the things I miss is the most about those days is the era of the Horror Host. It's such a shame they've become a thing of the past. The host of Creature Feature was the infamous Dr. Paul Bearer. He was the epitome of spooky. He had this eerie deep voice, an actual glass eye, drove an actual hearse around town and had this cheesy gallows humor I loved. I happened to find a couple clips for you guys on youtube and I thought I'd share. So without further ado, Dr. Paul Bearer...He'll be lurking for you!

Super Sekrit Project is back! I'm going to jump ahead a few pages and land you smack in the middle of the mess, so to speak. Word of warning, this is an erotic horror and descriptions maybe be a bit...stomach-churning *evil grin*.

When the wife slowly peeled the dirty bandage away, bits of congealed blood and pus clung to the cotton. A small chunk of flesh a couple of inches in diameter was missing from her forearm just above the wrist, leaving a necrotic festering wound. The torn edges were a sickly gray. The gangrenous bite looked days old, not hours. Nicole had never heard of an infection that could cause something like this.

"I'm sorry," Nicole said sadly. "There's nothing we can do for you."

Grandpa Jim poked his head out of the kitchen where he'd been busy canning some of the meat they had on hand. Preserving and stockpiling food seemed like a good idea considering the circumstances.

"Anythin' new darlin'?" he asked in that old southern drawl she'd always found such a comfort. Right now, she'd take all the comfort she could get.

"All the major cities hit hard by the infection are under martial law. Not a big surprise with all the looting and chaos. Atlanta looks like a warzone. They're gunning people down in the streets," she told him before lighting another cigarette. "Nothing new from the government or the CDC."

Best of 2010 - Books

This has been a good year for me. I've read a lot of good books, watched a few good movies, listened to some great music among other things. Since I'm not just a writer, but also an avid reader, I thought I'd post a list with my favorite reads for 2010.

Best Urban Fantasy

Considering it's one of my favorites, I've read several good books in this genre this year. It was hard to narrow it down, but there are three that stand above the rest.

City of Ghosts by Stacia Kane

I loved this series. It's dark, gritty and so unlike anything else out there. I have to say I love all the books, but the third blew me away. Bathroom scene, need I say more? There were so many emotional moments for me with this book. I chewed a few nails, I laughed, I teared up and when it was over I wanted to read it again. Ms. Kane's story-telling skills and characterization are superb and it really shows in this book.

Double Cross by Carolyn Crane

I'm not even sure what I can say about this book that would do it justice. It was such an emotional roller-coaster and so clever. Ms. Crane has given us such a unique and unusual world. The brilliance of the characterization, the idea of flaws being powers and the tension make it a huge win for me. The ending of this book about killed me, but you can bet I'll be first in line for the next one when it finally comes out.

Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews

This series is my crack. I can fully admit it. And this installment? There aren't enough words. Curran alone was enough to send me into serious book-high. I love the Andrews team's writing. The voice speaks to me in a way few others do, but it's the world-building that really grabs me. As far as I'm concerned, it's unmatched.

Best Paranormal Romance

Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews

This is a book that stood so far above the rest I couldn't recall the other books I read in this genre this year. Again, the world-building was fantastic. The relationship between Cerise and William was full of tension, emotion, action...you name it, this couple had it. I fell in love with this book.

Best Horror

Heart-shaped Box by Joe Hill

Creepy and engrossing, this was heads above the rest in the horror genre for me. I simply love Joe Hill's writing style and can't wait to read more of his books.

Best Zombie

Rise Again by Ben Tripp

For a book I almost gave up on, it ended up being my favorite zombie read of the year. It starts a little slow, but once it picks up momentum, it never stops. Full of apocalyptic goodness and zombie gore, I loved it. The protagonist, Dani, is an unusual character, flawed and at times selfish, I loved her to pieces. I'm anxious to read more from Mr. Tripp. He's an amazing and talented addition to this genre.

Day by Day Armageddon by J.L. Bourne

I can't say enough about this book. Written in journal form, it drew me in from the first page. It's raw, gritty and full of everything I love about this genre.

Best YA

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

I adore The Hunger Games trilogy, but this book hit me in a way the others didn't. Don't get me wrong, I loved the first two. But Mockingjay twisted me up, turned me inside out and left me in awe. Suzanne Collins has a gift for telling a tragic story. Despite how many were disappointed with the third book, I wouldn't have it end any other way.

Matched by Ally Condie

I know, another dystopian on my list. What can I say? I have a soft spot for certain genres. This book is reminiscent of others that have come before it, but Ms. Condie was able to put enough of herself into it to make it stand on its own. This was one of those books that when I finished it, I wanted to tell everyone about how great it was. It's going to kill me to have to wait for the next one.

Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Maberry

Zombie books are like candy for me and this one is no exception. The world Mr. Maberry created with Rot & Ruin speaks of his unbelievable talent. Post-apocalyptic with an Old West feel, zombies, action and heart, I loved every word!

Best Erotic Romance

Willing Victim by Cara McKenna

Raw, gritty and unlike anything in this category, Willing Victim was by far my favorite read in this genre. Ms. McKenna took a huge risk with this book and it paid off in a big way for me. After I read it, I went and bought her entire backlist.

Best BDSM

Comfort Object by Annabel Joseph

Ms. Joseph's voice and writing style just do it for me. This particular book was so good I read it twice. The characters have a realism despite the unreal situation Ms. Joseph created for them. Jeremy is the kind of D-type that is very difficult to write. He's selfish, harsh and quite cold at times. He delivers swift and sadistic punishments that are as cruel as they are titillating. Ms. Joseph pulled it off with flare and style. Very few BDSM books can compete with this one.

Six Sentence Sunday (on the fly)

The last few weeks have been hectic and I just haven't been able to get to Six Sentence Sunday. To make up for my slacker ways I've decided to post the first six sentences in my new super sekrit project. It's actually a few more than six, but you don't mind do you?

It was just supposed to be a particularly virulent strain of the common flu. Nicki sat at the counter in Bone Shaker, her grandparents' hole-in-the-wall BBQ joint in rural Georgia, and watched the Technicolor nightmare unfold before her on the television. After an endless stream of violence, panic and death, it was apparent there was nothing common about this.

No longer hungry, she pushed the basket of greasy fries away from her and wiped the salt from her fingers.

"Nicole, if it's buggin' you that much, shut the damn thing off," Grandma Bea said with a scowl.

Nicki sighed. She wanted to. She really did, but it was like a gruesome reality show she couldn't turn away from, much less shut off.

I know, I've been a complete slacker and you haven't seen a blog post from me for a while. With the holidays fast approaching, another round of illness, my daughter and her issues and writing, time is something I don't have a lot of these days. I can proudly say that all my Christmas shopping is done! I'm treating myself to a cupcake for that one. Granted I did most of my shopping online, but hey, it's done. Of course I still have to wrap everything...so not looking forward to that one.

On the home front, the flu has made a visit to our household and can I tell you what fun that has been? Hopefully everyone will be completely over it by Christmas. Sick toddlers, presents and a family get-together do not a good day make. Aside from the sickness, I've had other stresses. My three year old was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder last year. Unfortunately, she has not progressed with the therapy as far as we'd hoped and she's now displaying more autistic features. It has been a hard and emotionally exhausting road. I can admit that I have had problems accepting that it may be autism. I love her fiercely and as a mother I just want her to be okay. It's taken me some time to come to the realization that her being okay, starts with me. The decisions I make now will affect her future and they aren't easy ones. We've begun the process of getting her tested and it makes me angry how difficult insurance companies make it for children like my daughter to get the help they need, but I won't bore you with all that. Some days are harder than others and I don't get as much time to write as I'd like, but I'm okay with that. Some things are just more important.

About the writing, I've been working on an Urban Fantasy that has me really excited. The world-building has been time consuming, but I think I have all the kinks worked out. I'm also working on a new BDSM contemporary about a bartender and her boss with lots of spanking, because let's face it, bad girls need to be spanked every now and again. I have plans to write Aimee's story (Indigo's roommate from Wrapped Around Your Finger) and Jared's story (hot D-type and friend of Banner Faust). But I won't likely get to them for a few months. I'm dying to write an apocalyptic erotic romance. The plot and characters are coming together nicely for this one. Expect zombies, mayhem, gore and of course hot sex.

I've been listening to a lot of really good music to get the creative juices flowing for both the apocalyptic romance and the urban fantasy. I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you. If you can't tell, I'm a big psychobilly / rockabilly freak. Enjoy!

Oh! Good news. I just came across another great review for Wrapped Around Your Finger. I'm a little overwhelmed by how much everyone has loved this book. There are so many pieces of me in this story and it's always good to see that it makes a difference when put yourself out there. Of course it's scary as hell, but worth it. So worth it. Mmm, Cupcakes!

If you've read Wrapped Around Your Finger, you know about Indie's cupcake addiction. In the book she makes chai spice cupcakes. I thought I'd post the recipe that inspired that scene. Also! If you're a member of my Yahoo Group, I'm hosting a little contest just for you so be sure to check it out.

Chai Latte Cupcakes

Recipe originally from Post Punk Kitchen (best Vegan site EVAH) and also appears in the book Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World.

Ingredients
1 cup soy or rice milk
4 black teabags (I used chai tea instead. I like them to really have that spice flavor)
1/4 cup canola oil
1/2 cup vanilla soy yogurt
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/3 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
pinch of ground white or black pepper

Buttercream Icing
6 tablespoons vegan margarine, softened (I use Earth's Balance)
3 tablespoons soymilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups confectioners’ sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1 teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 tablespoon sugar, for the tops

Directions
Preheat oven to 375F. In a small saucepan heat soymilk until almost boiling, then add the tea bags, cover the pan, and remove from the heat. Let sit for 10 minutes, then squeeze the teabags to release as much tea as possible before removing the bags from the soymilk.

In a large bowl whisk together oil, yogurt, sugar, vanilla and tea mixture until lumps are worked out. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, and pepper into wet ingredients. Mix until large lumps disappear; some small lumps are okay. Pour batter into lined cupcake tins and bake 20 to 22 minutes until a sharp knife inserted comes out clean. Allow to cool completely.

For icing: Beat together butter, milk and vanilla until smooth. Add sugar a cup at a time until you get the consistency you want. If icing seems to runny, at more sugar, if it seems too thick, add a bit more milk. Spread or pipe onto cooled cupcakes.

Mix together the cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar, then sprinkle a bit onto the top of each cupcake and indulge!

Another Six Sentence Sunday is upon us! I've decided to give you a small taste of one of books I'm currently working on. It's an Urban Fantasy with a few horror elements and that's all I'm going to give you.

The air was so saturated with magic she nearly choked on it as she settled into the antique chair across from Remy Louviere.

"Mmm, such a pleasure seein' you in my neck of the woods Ms. Kelly." His accent was lyrically smooth and lazy slow. The man talked as if he had all day to sit and converse. And she could sit all day and listen to him. Considering he was the most dangerous man in this godforsaken swamp, that was probably a bad thing.

Anxiety nagged the edges of Indie’s already frayed nerves as she waited in the dressing area with the other models. The haughty, judgmental glares from the younger, skinnier Barbie types had her desperately itching to offer a sarcastic smile and a middle finger. So what if she wasn’t even close to a size two? She did okay working as a model for the alternative fetish agency Exquisite Flesh. It wouldn’t make her rich, but it paid the bills and her tuition at culinary school.

Usually she did pinup shoots and ads for alternative clothing. Very rarely did she take assignments that required nudity. She wasn’t actually naked for this, but damn close to it. Who was she to pass up the opportunity to be a sushi model at a trendy restaurant like Crave?

“Indigo Hartley!”

Indie walked through the curtain and into the dining room with pride. Well, about as much pride as one can muster while wearing a flesh-colored thong and paper booties.

The manager, Elaine, stood waiting in her drab suit and looked rather alarmed. “Oh no, this is the new model? Lance, I thought I told you that she had to fit the type!” She whirled to face the man who prepared the display table before them.

“Exquisite Flesh was the only agency that had a girl available on such short notice. I’m an assistant, I don’t do miracles,” Lance said with a smirk.

“Chef is not going to be happy. At all. She’s covered in tattoos and,” she fingered a lock of Indie’s hair, “are those blue streaks in her hair?”

Torn between mortification and annoyance, all Indie could do was stand there. The last thing she wanted to do was piss off Chef Faust. He was the culinary world’s version of a rock star. He was known for being demanding, flashy and prone to excess, but his talent with food was undeniable. The chance to catch a glimpse of him in action was the main thing that motivated her to accept the job.

Her agent hadn’t mentioned they’d wanted to book a specific type. Just fucking great.

“I’m sorry that I’m not what you were expecting. I’ll just gather my things and be on my way,” Indie offered with a polite nod, but was met with the manager’s sigh of irritation.

“No, no, no. It’s too late to find a proper replacement. You’ve already been prepped. We’ll just have to make it work.”

Prepped meant she’d been shaved baby smooth and washed thoroughly with an organic unscented soap. It had been an odd experience, having unknown people scrub and shave her so completely. Actually she’d found the whole thing rather arousing. Maybe she should be embarrassed about that, but right now she was too nervous to put much thought into it.

The manager turned back to Lance. “Take her to pastry and have them airbrush over her tattoos. When they are finished let Chef know he will not be able to put the food directly on her skin. Then get her into place on the table in the corner, the one that’s out of the way.”

“You got it,” Lance responded as he held out a robe for Indie.

She thankfully wrapped herself in the silk and followed him into the kitchen. She stopped and stared for a second. She couldn’t help it. It was as if she’d just died and gone to culinary heaven. There was so much space. The polished stainless steel and top-of-the-line equipment almost had her drooling. Everything you ever needed to be a kick-ass chef was in this kitchen. She could just imagine the high-end, exotic ingredients it would be stocked with. This wasn’t a place for cooking. No, nothing as ordinary and mundane as that. This was a place to create art.

“Indigo?” Lance’s voice snapped her out of her trance.

“Sorry, it’s just…this kitchen,” she murmured.

“Come on, sweetheart. Shame really, but we have to cover those gorgeous tattoos of yours,” he said with a sympathetic smile. “If it were up to me I would—”

“What is she doing in here?” Chef Faust made a beeline for them, toweling off his hands as he approached.

It’s him. Indie’s heart did a little dance. Okay, so she could admit she was a little star struck.

Meticulously he scrutinized her as he stood waiting for an answer. He had the kind of intense features that made him appear almost angry—perfectly straight nose, hard, square jaw, brooding and stormy blue eyes. The man was chest-achingly beautiful. She knew from the articles she’d read about him that he was thirty-four, just six years older than her. To have achieved all of this so quickly, he had to have hunger and drive, two qualities no top chef could succeed without. She bet arrogance and superiority belonged on that list too.

“Chef, this is the replacement model. I was just taking her to pastry to have them airbrush over her tattoos,” Lance replied with an audible level of anxiety and eyes so huge it seemed as though he was braced for nuclear fallout.

“May I see?” Chef Faust addressed Indie.

Showing her personal bits to the executive chef of one of the most acclaimed restaurants in the area was not high on her list of fun things to do. This is what you signed up for so suck it up. She was not ashamed of her body and Chef Faust could go sous-vide himself if he didn’t like what he saw.

She nodded and let the robe slip off her shoulders to pool at her elbows. The way he drank her in made it seem as if everyone else in the room had vanished. Her already hardened nipples stood out like beacons. She felt the blush creep into her cheeks as she imagined him pinching, tugging, sucking on them. Where had that come from? Her unexpected arousal unbalanced her. She hadn’t reacted this way to a man in a very long time. Disconcerted by the need and lust he’d so effortlessly invoked in her, she averted her gaze before tentatively settling it on his once more. He ran a hand through his shaggy, walnut-brown hair as he studied her. “No. No airbrushing. She’s absolutely perfect,” he exclaimed, circling her.

Lance let out a sound that was halfway between a sigh and a laugh.

Had Chef Faust just said she was perfect? Indie with the extra padding around the hips, a bit of roundness to her belly and lily-white skin? She followed him with her gaze, watching as he continued to peruse her body. It should have felt cold and dispassionate. He was contemplating whether or not he wanted to use her as a display for raw fish after all. But the way he moved made her feel as if he were a predator and she his prey. It was somehow sensual, and she was incredibly embarrassed that she was turned on by it. Attempting to regain her composure, she straightened her spine and lifted her chin, praying he hadn’t noticed the way he affected her.

New Cover Yumminess!

Wrapped Around Your Finger has a cover! I absolutely love it. It fits the book really well and the cover artist did a wonderful job matching the description for Indigo.

As for recent news, I was assigned a new editor and I couldn't be happier with her. Hopefully we can get going on my edits soon and get this baby released.

On the home front, I have walking pneumonia so I've been pretty sick. Unfortunately I haven't been writing much. I can tell you that I decided to dive in and finish the second Telal book, Between Heaven and Hell. I've missed Seth and it will be fun getting down and dirty with him.

I've been doing quite a bit of reading recently since I haven't been well. I've come across some really good books too. Being sick isn't all bad I guess. I'll keep you all updated on the new release and such.

October is Horror Month

Well it is for me anyway. I've decided to pollute my brain with as many horror movies, books and shows as I possibly can. I love Halloween and all things horror so you'll likely be sick of seeing me post about it by the time November rolls around.

Last weekend the husband and I sat down to watch The Human Centipede. This little gem has fought hard to win the title of 'The Sickest Movie Ever', but it seems to fall a bit short of that. Don't get me wrong, it is a sick movie. There are certainly a few stomach churning moments. How can you not have those in a movie where three individuals get sewn together mouth to ass? In concept, it's original and extremely twisted. Despite not quite living up to the hype, the film does have it's moments and Dr. Heiter (Dieter Laser) is by far the best part of the movie. Creepy doesn't even begin to describe the insane, sadistic surgeon. Director Tom Six has flaunted over and over that the movie is one hundred percent medically accurate and that may very well be. But the movie has some incredibly stupid moments that just left me scratching my head. I won't go into spoilery detail. You'll just have to see this freak show for yourself. Oh and in case one human centipede isn't enough for you, there are two more in the works.

Now if you're thinking that it can't get any sicker or more disturbing than three humans creatively sewn together, you'd be wrong. Martyrs makes The Human Centipede look like child's play. Reading the synopsis at IMDb, you might think it looks like a revenge movie, toss in a little torture-porn and voila, you have the French horror phenom Martyrs. But oh you'd be so very, very wrong. I will not go into specifics because the power of this film lies in the clever way it seduces you into thinking it's something that it's not. Just when you think it's over and you're sure the credits will roll at any second, director Pascal Laugier pushes it further and still, further.

I watched Martyrs with a heightened level of anxiety that never let up. Not once. It was so incredibly uncomfortable to sit through this. But more than that, there is a depraved intelligence to it. It's a horror movie that not only gives you death and blood (buckets of it), viciously brutal torture (lots of that as well), moments of terror (yes, it's scary too!), but it makes you think. It took me a full day to digest what I witnessed in this movie. I can't say as though I'd want to watch it again, but what I can say is that I'm glad I saw it. It ranks up there as one of the best horror movies of all time for me and that is saying something.

On my list of movies to see by the end of the month are Irreversible, Let Me In, [REC] 2,

Squee!!! Supernatural is tonight!

As most of you know, I am a rabid Supernatural fan. Love me those Winchester boys. The season six premier is tonight at 9 p.m. EST on CW. I'm jumping-up-and-down excited about this. I was so happy when Sarah Gamble announced there would be a season six. For the longest time we believed that Eric Kripke would end our beloved show with the end of the Apocalypse and we'd forever be watching re-runs to get our Dean fix. We get one more year. I can't wait to see what's in store for our boys and their family.

It seems like I've been away forever. I'm still trying to get over this lingering illness so I haven't done much writing. Adding a little here to and there to Consensual Risk is about all I can manage. On a brighter note, my edits for Wrapped Around Your Finger have begun. It's always a little overwhelming adjusting to a new publishing house and the way things are done there. Luckily I have a good editor.

Since I do have a new release in the works, I thought I'd post a blurb for it. It's unofficial of course, but at least I can give you a taste of what's to come.

Yeah, hubs and I are a bit different on our choices. Unfortunately, he doesn't share my zombie love. I could tell you he's a closet Supernatural freak--even quotes the show on a regular basis--but he might tan my hide if I let that cat out of the bag.

In my fever filled fog, I decided to watch some of my old zombie favorites and try out a few new ones. I hate to say this, but the UK has turned out the best zombie entertainment installment that I've seen in a long while. Dead Set is spot on. It was not easy to get a hold of either. For starters, they don't make the dvd in a format that plays in the US (region 1). So, we purchased it from Amazon as a region 2 dvd and also had to splurge on a region free dvd player. Luckily Amazon had one for pretty cheap. Now, you might be thinking this is a lot to go through for a zombie flick, but for a fanatic like me it was well worth it. I'm adding it to my list! It's fresh, or rotted rather, and I loved it. The Big Brother spin was unique, done without cheese and without a cast of young Hollywood actors (thank you). It makes me excited for The Walking Dead series that AMC is putting out this year.

I'm in love too, with these new heels. And with a name like Glamour Guts, how can I resist? I developed a weakness for Iron Fist shoes after I purchased my zombie stomper flip flops this spring. Is it completely twisted that I am so turned on by this video? Take away the negative context and the angsty drama and it's pretty damn hot, to me anyways. I love aggressive sex. I love that she fights back. My heart races every time I watch this. Wrong? Maybe, but I'm perfectly okay with my kinks.

It brings to mind the book I'm currently working on. The relationship pushes a few boundaries and my female protagonist isn't a submissive by the standard definition. I happen to have an affection for non-standard, undefinable BDSM. It's so much more fun then the typical D/s out there. Don't get me wrong, I love D/s in all it's forms but when people start talking about definitions and stereo-types, I break out in hives. I like to live outside of the box and it's going to show in this book.

Good morning. Still tired from the weekend and desperately trying to garner up some energy. I have some news, the publisher I submitted Wrapped Around Your Finger to has requested the full manuscript, so I'm excited about that.

After some thinking, I've decided to change up my current WIP. I began a BDSM contemporary a little over a week ago and I've decided to switch it to first person POV. I think with the content being darker and more emotional, I need to tell it through the characters directly. It's knew for me and I'm still getting the hang of it, but what I've discovered is that the emotion just flows. With third person, I always found myself going back during edits to add more introspection and emotion because I tended to focus on dialogue and scene direction. I actually had to make an effort to put myself into the character's head to really get their thoughts and feelings to come across. With first person POV, it's automatic. I'm not sure if it's because it's new or because it seems to keep me in the character's head, no effort required. Something to think about.

Yes, this is me. I fully admit it. I'm hooked on the bean. Well, I need something to power me through the days after I've been up half the night with my spawn.

There's not a whole lot going on over here other than waiting to hear back about my submission and starting a new project. I finally have the tone and feel for the new contemporary I'm writing. I love it when things finally click and the words start to flow. I adore the setting and characters in this one and can't wait to get to the meat of the story.

Other than that...I have some interesting plans for this blog when I finally get some kinky stories published. Writing BDSM has been an interesting experiment in self exploration. Aside from the research I get to do, I really get to examine myself and my own submission. It's been a strange journey for me and there are parts of that journey that come out in my writing, whether they are feelings, experiences, realizations...I think it's been good for me to spin stories in this genre. It's more personal to me and hopefully that translates into something that benefits me and my writing.

Eventually I want to start blogging about certain practices that occur in my books--figging, spanking, forced orgasms, orgasm denial, bondage, and that's just to name a few. I'll also throw in the occasional recipe since I can't seem to help the fact that yummy food always seems to find it's way into my books.

On that note, I think I'll leave you with your dose of Eye Candy for the day.

Morning. Not a good one just yet. I need more coffee for that. I finally finished Wrapped Around Your Finger and I'm currently doing an edit. I'm hoping to have it submitted by the end of the week. Yes, that would be after I write the sucknopsis and query. I really, really, really dislike writing a synopsis. I need to get organized enough with my projects that I'm actually writing the syno before I start the actual book. I'll get there. I will.

As a matter of fact, a dear author friend of mine introduced me (sucked me in) to the wonderful OCD world of calendars. I started and before I knew it, I'd plotted my writing through October. I'm hoping that this will help me stay on track. I really need a taskmaster complete with flogger to keep me in line. Know where I can find one? grins Well, I guess some determination, a lot of coffee, and the calendar will have to do for now.

Now that I've finished a BDSM contemporary, I've come to the decision that I'd like to continue writing this genre. Wrapped Around Your Finger came about because I was burned out writing the second book in my paranormal demon series. Right now, Between Heaven and Hell is sitting on my shelf nearly complete. Nearly. There's a lot going on in that story. I had a problem with heroine at first and had to go back to the drawing board with her. When I changed her, I had to change essential parts of the story. Writing became a chore and it should never feel that way. I decided to step away from it for a while.

Because I can't not write, I just sat down and began this little story that was in my head. Wrapped was what came out of that. This little story about a woman's discovery of her submission and the Dominant that helped her open up, flowed so easily. But at the same time, it was difficult to write. I ended up putting more of myself into the characters than I originally intended. When I sat down to write this, it was supposed to be fun and sexy and it is, but it's also emotional and revealing. I also ended up going about 10K over on my word count. The end result I think is good. I hope it's good. First I hope it gets picked up by a publisher. But even more than that, I hope that those who read it enjoy the story and come away thinking that it was more than just a fun, sexy story.

Just a tidbit for Kink Watch - I found this gem surfing through pictures on Google. I love the older ads like this. A good over-the-knee-spanking, what's not to like? Now, I know that these older ads would be considered politically incorrect not to mention chauvinistic, but I love it.

Kink Watch - BDSM in Pop Culture

I'm always so fascinated to see BDSM references and examples in current media and pop culture. I'm sure being active in the lifestyle has made more aware of it than I would be otherwise. Every now and again I catch glimpses of things in the news, on television, movies or the music industry so I thought I'd start a Kink Watch here on my blog just for kicks.

In recent years it's been pretty prevalent even showing up on popular tv shows such as CSI (remember the fur pile and adult baby episodes? Not to mention Lady Heather), Supernatural, Desperate Housewives and Dollhouse (there are so many underlying fetish connotations to that little sci-fi show they sadly took off the air) that's just to mention a few.

We're often treated to music stars wearing Dominatrix outfits or producing videos with strong BDSM themes. Rhianna's Disturbia video comes to mind and I won't even bring up the atrocious video a certain blonde pop star recently released. P!nk's Please Don't Leave Me is one of my favorites though. How could you not love P!nk in that nurse costume?

It crops up in movies blatantly like in The Secretary, which by the way, I LOVE. I've even seen it in action flicks like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, suspense movies like 8mm, and horror movies like Strangeland.

Not often, since I live in a pretty non-progressive area of Florida, I see something in my everyday life that makes me grin. For instance, I was in the grocer yesterday in line behind a gay couple that I just knew was in the lifestyle. Aside from the little collar the younger male wore (which could be just be worn for fashion these days) there was something about the way they interacted that made me see it. The more dominant male placed his hand on the back of his boyfriend's neck and steered him along. Maybe other's might see that as slightly aggressive or controlling. To me, it was endearing and sweet.

Also! Last week I saw the BDSM emblem on the back of an SUV. Of course I was curious about the driver because it's not something I normally see in my neck of the woods and she looked like a soccer mom complete with that little netted soccer ball hanging from her rearview. I had to smile about that.

Dream a Little Dream

When I'm writing a book, I reach a point in the process where it becomes a constant presence in my thoughts. In every spare moment, I'm running dialogue through my head, planning scenes, adding layers and so on. My husband calls it obsession, I call it being in the zone--tomato, tom-whatever, you get the point. Well after writing a pretty intense scene and hitting the sack, I had a dream about the little novella I'm working on. Now it's not like I woke up with new scenes in my head or a plot change or anything like that. What I did wake up with was a clear picture of the Dominant in my story. Mix an rerun of The Vampire Diaries with a hot D/s scene and you get the perfect Dom for my story.

I always begin a story with rough character sketches. There are times when I sit down and during the course of my writing, those sketches change. Sometimes it's a name that doesn't quite seem right or the physical description never gives me a clear picture in my head or a layer I'll add as I go. It can be any number of changes. With my current work in progress, I just never developed a good mental image of my hero.

Care to see what my subconscious handed me? Oh and he fits so perfectly my heart did a little flip-flop when I went back and changed the description.
